Why it happens
A family is a name, not a case. It survives redesigns, size variants, ladies models and decades of production, and the case gets redrawn along the way. The Constellation has been in production since 1952: the name is the same, the gap between the lugs is not.
This is where wrong orders come from. Someone reads that a family takes 20 mm, orders 20 mm, and receives a band that is two millimetres too wide for the watch actually on the wrist.
